- World (previously– Worldcoin) announced its launch in the United States,writesThe Verge. The company will install Orb devices, which scan irises, record the data as a code and create a World ID, in World Spaces and partner locations, including Razer stores.
- World ID can be used to verify identity online. In total, the company will install more than 7,000 Orbs in the United States. According to its own figures, the number of people who have been “verified” using the devices is 12 million.
- In exchange for scans, the project gives nativetokens– WLD. According to The Verge, those who have their irises scanned will be given 16 WLD each. Those who registered on the World app in the U.S. will get 150 WLD each. As of 12:41 a.m. May 2, 2025, WLDis worthabout $1. The token will be available in most U.S. states, including on exchanges like Coinbase.
